No, I haven’t been inactive on YouTube these past couple of months. Yes, I’ve been pretty busy with new responsibilities. No my videos are not coming out on Wednesday now; it’s still Monday. And yes, my posts recently have been focusing on Tale of the Nameless God. Thank you so much for asking! My Writers Corner video this week is all about writing dystopias. Let’s get to it, shall we?
But what exactly are dystopias? Well, they’re the opposite of utopias. Utopias are idealistic societies with minimal struggle, strife, or pain. So why would we want to start writing dystopias? Perhaps it’s a cautionary tale. And perhaps it’s because we really wanted to see our protagonist struggle and rebel against a greater power. Who can really say?
Which leads me to my next point: greater powers. When you’re writing dystopias, your band of merry heroes must rebel against a greater power, whether that be: robots, totalitarian dictatorships, or a negative societal change (like increased crime, à la The Purge). However, it shouldn’t be easy. Maybe your protagonist actually has it good in this warped society! Watch the video below to find out more.
Now, in relation to my YouTube videos, I would like to say a few words before I wrap this up. First off, even though this post (and the video) is about writing dystopias, I’ve put out other videos since my last YouTube related post. Which means there’s a lot of content to catch up on! I’ll be regularly posting about the videos I’ve released since then, just to remind you periodically that I am still alive, and helping others.
