Last week I took a break from all the stretching exercises. In Writers Corner I did a video about creative exercises you can do to warm up before writing. Another exercise video? Yes. But this time, it’s all about the mind!
Stretching out your joints and muscles is great! It keeps you from getting tense or developing bad posture. Which is especially important when you spend the majority of your day hunched over a desk, writing nonstop. However, that’s not all there is to getting ready for writing. Writing a novel, or even a short story, can be a draining process, especially if you do it every day. Which means performing some creative exercises can help loosen up your brain and get you geared up for writing.
So what can you expect out of these creative exercises? First, I cover some of the basics of memory and mental flexibility. Then, I move onto the actual exercises. Which is basically just a bunch of fun writing games! I cover a few games for creativity and getting your brain ready to go, and then in the latter part of the video, I go over some memory exercises. A good memory is just as important to a writer as a creative brain. Which is ironic considering we write everything down…but I digress! Just watch the video and I explain it.
I’m not all caught up on my posts just yet, but I’m making progress there. This week I did the final stretching video, and I’ll go into all the detail about that a bit later.
I hope you’re enjoying the various directions I’m taking. I’m trying lots of new things, and I want to know what you think of it!
